Defi-wind 2010
What an event! Windsurfing at its best! 1000 competitors and
four very windy days will make this year’s Defi write new history. One of the
biggest if maybe not the biggest windsurfing event ever scored the best
Tramontana and the fabulous organizers held 6 races that were together about
240 km long.
On Monday before the event I drove to Klagenfurt (450km)
where I agreed for a new sponsorship collaboration with www.wind-and-waves.eu.
I was very happy about that!
Tuesday I needed to drive to Senegalia (1100km) to get the
new racing sails finally as they were very late and if they would be sent they
would come to late.
On Wednesday in the morning I had a presentation of
windsurfing on the primary school with the new Windsurfpoint station that will
be opened next week. I am also a partner of the new windsurf station. We are
trying to present our fantastic sport to as many youngsters as possible so that
they would also come to surf on the sea not only to surf on internet.
After the presentation I left to Gruissan (1200 km). After
2750 km in 3 day I came with completely new set of sails to the spot. As you
can imagine I was very tiered, but after the registration I started to get
ready.
The first race I had no idea where to start with 1000 people
on the start. I was with X-fire 112 and 7.8. After a very bad start I followed
Anders Bringdal and he missed the mark so quite a few of us needed to tack
twice and we lost a lot of places. The day after the wind got stronger and I
was able to jump on the X-fire 90 that I love! But I was a bit skeptic about
the sails. I rigged the new Aero+ 7.1 with a completely new Carbon tech mast.
The combo looked great, but I was not sure about it, till I started the race 2.
With a fair start I finished race 2 on the 9th place! From there it
just went better and better. The new masts that Saso (Carbon tech designer)
made in combination with the new sails worked just brilliantly. I was feeling
so comfortable even in 50 knots gusts, as the sail was so stable and when the
gust came I was just accelerating without that I would lose any control. The
response of the new masts is just unbelievable! I was sailing with 5.6 when
Bringdal was on 4.9!? In the last race I was on Aero 5.6 and the 90, after
making some small adjustments I started really to “fly”. I finished the last
race on the 2nd position that was enough for the 6th place
overall!!
I was really happy, but another 1200 km were in front of me.
What week!
