Fuerteventura 2008 is over!
After 15 days of nonstop competitions I am destroyed, but luckily the event is over. Only Julien Quentel and me were competing in all three disciplines, but after the first day of speed he just had it enough and I ended up to be the only to do it all. So I could claim myself the overall winner ;)
In speed we have finished 7 rounds in quite hard wavy conditions. After the freestyle finished I was trying different thing like changing the fins (at the end I was using the Choko 28cm), moving the foot straps, but somehow I could not really get the speed that I know I can do. After speaking with some friends I decided to try to put more downhaul on my 6.4 Stealth sail that I used most of the time, even 2cm more than it is suppose to be and guess what, after the first hour of the heat I was 16th. Unluckily in the extension some guys manage to get better runs and I finished 20th, which was my best result of this week. I also improved my best time of this week to 34,26 knots. On the last day I found way I could not go like I know, but as they say better later than never. At the end I finished 27th in the 2008 speed World championship.
I definitely learned a lot in the last 15 days, but when I see the end results: 34th in slalom, 27th in speed and 22nd in freestyle I am not so satisfied. Now I fly home for a week to relax and recover for the next stop of the PWA slalom in Turkey where around 70 competitors are inscribed.
