Fuerteventura has finished!
The last two days in Fuerteventura were very sketchy. The wind turned more northerly, so more offshore on the Sotavento beach, and it got really gusty. The race director decided to give a start nevertheless the super gusty and shifty winds. On the penultimate day we did a very tricky race where I was in sixth place, but than the wind fully shifted and three of us could not make the third mark, because it was to much up wind. Although that happened the race committee did not abandon the race and I crossed the finish line in eight position. For the finals the wind really picked up and it was a very spectacular action to see the fleet in blasting 40 knots.
The last morning I had a felling the wind will never be suitable for a race. We had the skippers at 10:00 in the morning but the wind was not there. So we were all day on 10 minutes announcements and at 14:00 we started the first heats. A lot of them got canceled but the race director was still pushing it, so I did my heat too. On the first mark almost everyone stopped and I was one of the last to get started so I came to the finish in eight. After finishing the four heats they tried like 10 times to run the semifinals but they always had to be canceled due to wind holes. Finally at 16:00 the committee decided to call it off and finish the event without counting the last eleventh race.
This year Fuerteventura slalom event is finally finished and I made my best slalom result so far finishing on the 22nd place. In the overall I gain 2 places where I am at the moment on the 23rd place. Now we have almost two weeks brake and than Turkey already starts.
