Piranja
Last weekend the club Pirat from Piran organized the first windsurfing event which starts on exact time on a fix course no matter what the wind is doing. So it is open to all kinds of windsurfing gear, from old to modern. The organizers want to get as many competitors as possible in next years as they say that the event will be traditional, starting every first Saturday in September at 12:00 am exactly.
There were about 50 competitors on the start of the first edition. Light south wind of about 10 to 15 knots made the formula gear the best and fastest choice for the race. With my old Stealth 11.0 and the old F2 formula board I did not start the race in the best way as I did not get the right gust, but I still turned the first mark with the first group and got quite fast to the 3rd position. The long reach to the 2nd mark I was trying to catch Stojan Vidakovic, a very experienced formula sailor. The leader of the race Andrej Kocjan (Koc) made a mistake and stayed in the wind hole, so did Stojan and I passed in the lead. I was leading the race all the way to the last mark, where I got caught in a wind hole, at about the same point where Koc before. While trying to get out I could just watch Andrej passing me, but fortunately I got out before Stojan reached me. I finished the race after 1 hour and 20 minutes in second place, but was a bit disappointed, because I lost the triumph with a stupid mistake.
Anyway the event was very well organized and I must be happy with the second place as it was my second ever event that I did with the formula gear. Hopefully I will win next year ;)
